Benefits of Infiltration Wells

Components and Working Mechanism of Infiltration Wells
The infiltration well components consist of a water network that directs water flow into the filter
box, control box, and the main tank before it is absorbed into the soil.

Implementation of Infiltration Wells in Indonesia
Infiltration Wells Construction in DAS Ayung
Project Goals
Construction of 20 infiltration wells within the DAS Ayung to address high groundwater absorption and flood risk while empowering multi-stakeholder organizations for effective water resource management
Location
Indonesia, Bali
DAS Ayung, in 2 villages: Pangsan and Sangeh
Challenges/Context
Bali’s water crisis is driven by severe groundwater depletion, inefficient water management, and a lack of conservation efforts, leading to significant socio-economic challenges and reputational risk. Over 70% of Bali’s groundwater potential is extracted, exceeding the safe limit of 10%, which threatens water security, increases soil erosion, and hinders groundwater replenishment.
Number of Infiltration Wells
Pangsan Village: 10 Infiltration wells
Sangeh Village: 10 Infiltration Wells
Project Status and Duration
Status: Completed
Duration: 1 year
Planning and Construction Process For Ayung Watershed
The construction of infiltration wells went through planning, construction, and maintenance process in collaboration with the Bali Watershed Forum and Village Officials.
