Challenges

The watershed faces significant challenges that contribute to a decline in water quality. Pollution from domestic waste, agricultural chemicals, and agro-industrial waste has degraded water quality. Additionally, ongoing illegal sand mining operations exacerbate ecological damage and further deteriorate the river. Effective program execution is also hindered by the need to build trust and foster effective communication between BPDAS WSS and the surrounding community.

Intervention

To address these issues, a participatory approach is being adopted for rehabilitation initiatives, ensuring that efforts align with the community’s economic and ecological interests by planting locally valued species, such as Avocado Siger. Economic incentive programs are being implemented to benefit the community financially, including the cultivation of high-value plants. Furthermore, raising awareness and educating the public is a priority, with events organized to inform the community about the importance of protecting the river and adopting sustainable practices.
